I actually don't like any of the new starters, which is a first for me. Generally I love all the grass-types (exception being charmander. All other gens have the grass starter being awesome). But none of these really look appealing. We got grass/flying, fire/dark, and water/ice (assumptions, but more likely than not), none of which are breaking new ground or look that great. I mean, 6th gen didn't have the best looking starters, but at least chespin had a hat. I guess I'll just have to wait til the evolved forms get revealed before deciding if I'll bother with a starter at all (chesnaut was a fucking BEAST)

It hasn't come to it but I was going to say a similar thing if it came up. Drawings are made up of a combination of basic shapes and refined from there, but it's like Popplio was colordd in during the basic shapes stage and didn't have his design "filled out" and I think that's objectively pretty bad. A Pokemon is many more things than purely the technicality of its design so it can still have its own sort of appeal beyond that, but that's simply why I don't enjoy the design. As said I also think circus seal is kind of a dumb concept but that's purely subjective and just my opinion. I can at least appreciate the creativity of the idea.
