For the first 3, I was a Fire-type kinda kid.
Come Gen IV, I couldn't stand the fire starter.
From Gen V onward, I've just been really into the Grass-types for whatever reason.

Being real for a second Charizard has grown on me a lot over the years and Typhlosion is the only Fire Starter that I'm actually way into. Typhlosion is among my favourite Pokemon in concept despite needing to be reworked to be actually useful.
Blaziken, Infernape and Emboar are all some of my least favourite Pokemon though and Delphox is a resounding "meh" for me.
Litten looks kinda neat, I like that it's not just orange.
To be fair, I played R/B and G/S so much that I used every starter multiple times. But if I was picking now, I'd choose Squirtle or Cyndaquil, so

I can't decide on the new starters just yet. Rowlett and Litten have a sizable lead currently.
Gen 3 had the best 3 starters (combined).
Gen 1 is the only other where I loved all 3.
Gen 2 and 6 were hard to decide (chespin vs. froakie and totadile vs. cyndaquil were both nearly tied).
Gen 4 had decent starters, but nothing popped out.
I really hate the pokemon design in Gen 5 other than a few exceptions.

I have historically picked Grass starters through all of my first playthroughs, but these are my favorites. It's a real shame about Chespin and Smugleaf, I think the first stages are great but their evolutions are dog shit. Chikorita isn't bad but Tododile is better.

I have never picked a fire starter (except to fill my Pokédex).
My starters were:

Depending on what the evolutions look like, will choose my starter for 7th gen. I don't think I'll ever pick a fire type as a starter (unless Litten's evolutions look good).
I marked everything in Gen 3 cause I pretty much had great memories with all of them: Mudkip was the first starter I picked, Blaziken was the first Pokémon I leveled to 100, and Treecko kept my love of grass starters going (with my favorite second stage)
I lean towards Treecko the most, but I pretty much used all of them, and Gen 7 is looking to be the same too, I just can't decide between Rowlet and Litten.

Picked Snivy in White 2. It wasn't as awful as I thought it would be, mostly due to the Aqua Tail tutor giving it an actual coverage move. Pity the gen V starters were the first lot that couldn't all learn Earthquake.
