I'll be skeptical about Poplio/Litten until they reveal their final typing and evolutions. Anything can happen with those two, on a hand Litten may be quadruped just like any other pokemon with a kitty base-stage or become bipedal by fire-starter pattern magic. Poplio might suffer a drastical change like Oshawott/Milotic line that might bury it deeper or push it further.
Rowlet is going to have most likely a "it just get bigger evolution", nothing interesting and bland/boring like most bird pokemon. Still, Rowlet is going to be stuck with grass/flying and is funny that Rowletfags want it desperately to don't be shit since they're aware that Litten and Poplio have potential, so they don't want their precious starter to be as useless as Meganium.

I like all this gens designs so far. Much better reception than gen 5 in recent memory. Gen 6 was a confusing reveal period because of all the fakemons, froakie was shown with a poison dart frog evolution that I really liked, but it turned out to be fake so I picked Chespin.

"Potential" is such a vague word. Potential for what, and based on what? Litten "looks" like just a cat but the idea behind it is creative and the design is at least not offensive, at worst bland, and it still look a little extra effort and gave it the unique whisker design. And I think there's a lot of "potential" for a tiger Pokemon, especially given that starters for the last couple gens have been picking up interesting design traits in later evolutions to incorporate into it. I personally don't think there's any "potential" for a clown seal to appeal to me, though I think a larger and more detailed design that most Pokemon pick up in later stages anyway does open more avenues of things to do, and stuff to add, so I do think it can get "better".

Potential based on what you just said: the even better design starters gain with evolution. This is something very subjective i think. You could say that a sealion is just a sealion, while a lion have more appeal. But just watch at that Pyroar. So anonymous. My reasoning could be wrong, but the "joke" on popplio and that nose, remembering a sealion at circus with a balloon on the top is something that make me want to see what's next.

That was the reason why Ibused the cat as an example, actually-- to illustrate that I don't see any potential in Popplio beyond acknowledgement that its only the first stage and not a dead end because I think it's idea is inherently dumb, so I was questioning how you could say you hated Litten but liked Popplio because you thought it had "potential"
