Online was extremely buggy and the split just shuffled usage around making a large majority of pokemon shit.
The graphics were also worse overworld wise and it ran worse than gen 3 to the point that places like hearthome and goldenrod dropped frames.
At the very least gen 5 added new battle modes and fixed pokemon that were made shit due to the split through hidden abilities.
