Including generation 6, every grass type starter has been a part of an evolution line:
Blubasaur and chikorita were dinosaurs, treecko, turtwig and snivy are reptiles , which evolved from the dinosaurs and chespin is the first mammal animal, which had never had any green colors in real life. The birds evolved after the first mammal, so it looks like, they want to seperate the older dinosaur like pokémon from the newer ones.
