I didn't know about the announcement. I saw the pictures floating, and I thought the were terrible fan art, because the style is too cartoony for pokemon

This. They all seem really overly cartoony, they look like they were drawn by a little kid. I hope to god that these were just a fluke and the rest of the generation is okay, but I'm losing quite a bit of faith in Game Freak.

Again, that alone doesn't make it a good design. The back-hair standing thing already happens to cats in cartoons.
