Mudkip's orange cheeks and Treecko's yellow eyes work well with Torchic's color scheme.
You're right, their design philosophies are all pretty different. The only other instances of this that I can think of are how Oshawott and Chikorita were different in comparison.

Seems fine to me. I think it's mostly Litten that's throwing you off. It is pretty different from any fire starter color scheme wise.

the biggest difference here is collor palette used in them. Neither black or Red is used in any of the other fire starters, and the complete lack of orange is also weird. The grass starter doesn't have nearly enough green in it and the water starter have a darker shade of blue than usual (also, it doesn't have feet). I felt they were very different from the others, but in my opinion different is good.

This gen is already off to a bad start. The legendaries look OK, but they have that property of not looking like something that actually exists in the Pokemon universe. They look like some sort of in-universe Pokemon or something, like if there were aq monster collecting game in the Pokemon universe.
I like the bat and lion, but I can't actually visualize in my head either of them coming out of a Pokeball, or standing next to a Pikachu or whatever.
