Google light type and you will immediately find people from pre X and Y trying to connect Xerneas to being a light type. Weakness wise they would be different. But in terms of what they actually are they would be pretty much the same. Most chibi like Pokemon would become light but the problem is most chibi Pokemon (jigglypuff line) are fairy. They haven't been dragons for two gens now (including this one), and were only dragons for two gens before that.

A new type would be just to early, because the fairy type has mixed up the type chart. Everybody has to remember the new constellation of weakness, so it wouldn´t make any sense, if they mix it up again.

They did also swap things around a bit in Gen VI too, in addition to adding fairy. I know Steel lost its Dark and Ghost resistances, but I can't recall if there were any other changes and it's apparently hard to find anyone saying specifically what changed.
They also slightly buffed some mons' stats. It's not much, overall, but hopefully a sign of GameFreak opening up to reworking things without adding a new type, or item, or move, or mechanic. Just changing established things.

It'd be good against grass, as plants can survive in a void. It would probably be weak to bug and ice. Bug because some bugs and small organisms have been able to live in space, and ice because space is cold and it needs a buff.
It would probably resist rock and ground, because meteors, and it would probably be weak to psychic, because so far, psychic has been the substitue and it needs a slight buff.

There are too many water types because GameFreak went nuts for a bit making every normal Pokemon even marginally related to water water type. There have only been about 7 water legends, 6 if you don't want to count Phione. We didn't even get one until Gen II, and we've had about one every gen since, with two in Gen IV. Making or not making a legend water is rather ancillary to the overall problem of making the day-to-day pokemon overwhelmingly water type.
I don't actually think Lunaala is particularly likely to actually be part-Water, I was just voicing a general observation that, amid all the speculation and mythology wanking and general "what things are associated with the Sun and Moon," people missed this pretty common symbology.
