I didn't mind the roller-skates. It made movement so much more fluid. However, I say they should be Key Items with an On/Off function, so we can also use the D-Pad for running and sneaking like in ORAS.

The world is free form now, we're going to have the same motion anyway. Only now since the world is designed for it, it will work better. The skates were clunky because they were trying to work for a world that they weren't designed for.

The problem wasn't the skates themselves retard, it's that they were obligatory if you wanted to use the circle pad. You were forced to use the Dpad for chaining, so god forbid you accidentally pressed the circle pad out of habit and broke your chain.

No, the skates were shit because if you wanted to use the main movement interface for movement, you had to play like you were constantly on ice.
ORAS did it right, where the circle pad was for 360 degree freeform, non-grid locked movement, but with the same movement as walking or running.

In all honesty though, I'd be fine with them if they were optional, because as far as I remember there's never a time you need them to progress. Being forced to use them is just annoying, especially after playing ORAS and getting used to the off-grid walking, running and sneaking.

I love Bravely's one-handed menu navigation, but the 3DS D-pad is a pain for moving your character around. You have to exert so much pressure, especially when moving diagonally or changing directions without stopping.
