The problem is that Tropius is slow as fuck, and Jumpluff is weak as fuck.

Shaymin-sky is only good because of it's crazy stats and it's signature move. This is a starter pokemon, so it's stats aren't gonna be anything crazy, and it won't have a broken signature move.

Pokemon that are good competitive-wise relies in both, their typing and ability. Movepool, Movesets and STAB relies on typing and ability is the other half. It has always been like this, regardless of meta.

Skymin is an awful comparison, delusional faggot; we don't know if it's going to be special or physical for starters. Skymin has a bigger boost, great stat distribution, useful ability, good movepool without mention the access to convenient moves like earth power so it doesn't get walled by every steel type (not like it needs it, just to give an example). Also, Skymin's wide movepool is, in part, thanks to its base form so that's why it gets good coverage moves.
So the owl desperately needs access to good coverage moves, good movepool, good ability and good stat distribution to be decent; the other two still have competitive potential though.
