Remember its name is Marshadow. Either Mars ou Mar (sea) themed. Sea makes more sense (in my opinion), since it would be different from the otger two.

Okay, let's keep in mind that it is called "marshadow". What do japanese people call mars? 火星
First symbol there means fire, like in fire blast. Second one means star. So the third version could either be Star or Mars, since the Japanese call a fucking planet the fire star.
Now Mars in english is named after a God of War. If the design follows this path more, expect an edgy antagonist third like with giratina.

First of all, expecting third versions when we haven't had one since Platinum.
Second of all, nice research, and going off of what you said I feel like Marshadow could be based on a wolf because the wolf is a sacred animal to the god Mars. The wolf also seems to follow what I personally believe to be the theme behind Solgaleo and Lunaala, that theme being that the bat and lion both symbolize intuition and that the symbols on their foreheads represent the "third eye" which symbolizes prophesies as well as intuition, this is something the wolf does as well and it seems to fit rather well. So we could possibly have our first wolf based legendary.
