i always pick fire types because they're my favorite (for the most part). i usually end up making a team out of my favorites, not necessarily pokemon that are cute or powerful. i feel like playing the game like that puts you in too much of a box and makes it not that fun, but to each their own i suppose

I'm female and I picked Bulbasaur, Totodile, Mudkip, Piplup, Snivy and boxed Froakie as soon as I could. I'm also picking Popplio this gen.
I pick pokémon by the design, not because only because it's cute. But I admit I have a soft spot for dog pokémon and I always need one in my party.

Female here. For my very first playthroughs I picked Charmander, Chikorita, Treeko, Piplup, Snivy and Fennekin.
However, my tastes have changed since I was a 7-13 year old. If I were to do the first 3 games again again I'd probably go Bulbasaur, Totodile, and Mudkip (which I did for ORAS).
For gen 7 I will be picking Popplio. No questions.
