I'm okay using literally any other starter.
Grass is my favorite type but I hate both Chimchar and Turtwig so much that I have never, not even once picked anything but Piplup whenever I played Platinum.
This is the first time I'll pick the fire starter on my first playthrough. Litten seems really promising to me but if it turns out to be Fire/Fighting I'll go with Rowlet. I'm pretty sure it'll be Fire/Dark, Fire/Ghost or Fire/Poison though, which seems nice, so I'm pretty much set.
I've got no real pattern and none of the new starters look bad to me so deciding is going to suck.

Most likely Popplio, unless the others have amazing final evos or Popplio's sucks. I'm so glad we can get past the monstrosities that were the gen 6 starters. I did not like a single one, but if I had to choose, it'd be Froakie. My favorite starter yet has to be either Turtwig or Squirtle.

Totodile was the most disappointing starter when playing through crystal since there were so many good water types thrown at you like the red Gyarados and Suicune. E4 team ended up being 2 Gyarados, Suicune, Feraligtr, Skarmory, and Quagsire since I didn't feel like getting rekt by thunderbolt.
I guess I stopped caring about water starters after gen 5 because of how shitty the starters were in that gen

Since I got stuck as a 7 year old kid, I restarted and used Squirtle when I beat the game and Treecko was the only time that my starter wasn't in my main party since I used Shroomish instead because it appealed to me more. I'm bad to grass-types...

I never chose the water starter for my first playthrough. I was hoping gen 7 would change that, but I guess I'm staying with grass this gen.
Fourth gen I wasn't sure exactly how to handle, cause I didn't have a DS when it came out initially. I've gone back to play through it since, and I picked Piplup, but my current team (which I've had since before I went back to play gen 4) has an Infernape on it. Still, it's not a pokemon I chose to play through the game with, so I think I gotta go with Piplup.
Also I didn't realize how heavily I favored fire until I filled this out.

I know Delphox is pretty unpopular, and I know I'm in the minority, but fuck I think it's one of the more creative designs for a starters final. All three in Gen 6 were absolutely great imo.
I have always been a grass person. I regretted not picking Fennekin in gen 6. I love foxes.

If S/M are as good as I hope, I'm gonna do nuzlocke's with all of the starters, but Popplio first.
Started with Ruby and Torchic, later dominated by Sapphire and Treecko.
Then LeafGreen and Charmander, Emerald with Mudkip.
Pearl with Turtwig because two of my friends with with Chimchar and Piplup.
a used FireRed had Charizard, so I restarted LG with Bulbasaur to get the other beast, and restarted FR with Squirtle. Either before or after getting FR, I got a used Red and started with Bulbasaur. Later disliked my name in FR so I restarted again but with Charizard. Restarted Red with Squirtle.
Platinum used both Chimchar and Piplup because monkeys and penguins are more favorites of mine than turtles.
HeartGold used Cyndaquil. I bought a used Gold sometime after getting Red, using Cyndiquil, but the file was broken and I returned it.
Black: wanted to use Snivy, but a friend was thinking about getting it so I went with Oshawott.Mother fucker also chose Oshawott
Black2: Finally chose Snivy
Y: Fennekin, OR: Treecko again because I already used Torchic from time to time in Y.
Sun?: I like bird pokemon, but I also love cats. So I'm not sure which one I will choose yet.

I originally chose Charmander because my older brother stole Pokemon Blue from me at Christmas, and he chose Squirtle.
I chose Chikorita because my friend said that it had the hardest early game, and I wanted a challenge. Now I normally take one of the other two. Not a big Meganium fan.
From there, I've just chosen the one I liked the most. That and fire types were often a lot rarer pre E4 (D/P being one of the worst offenders). Infernape and Emboar reminded me of two of my favorite characters, Son Goku and Ganon so they were obvious choices. And despite popular opinion I like Delphox more than Braixen.
