More like Shitlet, but no seriously Chrizard needed 2 megas to save its skin. What will save Rowlet?
>>
shaymin sky form.jpg

Typing doesn't immediately kill a Pokemon, be patient
>>
>>26268277
Rowlet is not an event legendary with fantastic signature moves.
>>
>>26268277
Shaymin is shit tho
>>
Resists or is immune to some pretty crucial types and can't be spored/leech seeded. It's not the best typing in the world but it could be worse.

Also, at least it's only 2x rock weak and not 4x, Charizard was BL up until rocks were introduced. (When it immediately dropped to NU...)
>>
>>26268280
starters have good stats and nowadays have signature moves, still no reason to count something out because of type alone
>>
>>26268262
>4x ice weakness
Already dropped in favor of based Litten with superior resistances and less crippling weaknesses.
>>
>>26268286
It doesn't beat Talonflame, but it definitely isn't shit tho.

I'm not saying Rowlet is completely doomed, but it wont have the luxury of a legendary, hopefully it will be fast and have some good offenses so it can at least be useful. If the dex is anything to go by, hopefully it'll be a swift physical attacker.
>>
>>26268262
Rowlet could still have good stats (or stat distribution), move pool and ability. Flying is a great offensive STAB, and Grass gets a lot of good moves as well. It might even get a Mega.

It's just way too early to tell at this point.

I'm honestly hoping for a physical Grass/Flying 'mon here, even if

Shit ability/bad typing/bad movepool is something that could happen with Gamefreak, but a good hidden ability or really nice signature move could make up for the typing.
No saving him if he has retarded awful stat distribution though.
>>
Its not gonna be a pure Flying / Grass to me. Did Torchic become a flying chiken? Its gonna lose that flying to me and became a more badass hawlucha.
>>
>>26268568
Considering it starts with grass/flying, its a safe bet it'll stay that way. If it changes I would be pleasantly surprised, but odds don't feel like they'd be in that favour.
>>
Its primary is Grass. That flying could change. Making it a grass version of talonflame would be reductive. Talonflame is cool, but far away from the cool looks of a tipical final starter evo. Yeah, this is just my imagination, but a flying grass bird would be "too common" for a starter. I hope you know what i mean.
>>
>>26268262
Grass/Flying is actually a good offensive typing, so as long as they don't go full retard and make it slow and defensive then it could be decent.
>>
>>26268666
How would Grass/Flying be "too common" when there's only 5 other Grass/Flying Pokemon in existence, one of which is an alt forme?
>>
If Popplio is faster than it, Rowlet is doomed to be the worst of the three
>>
>>26268690
>tfw they will give it HP and defenses and make it a "bulky" grass type

>>26268678
Except steel resist it. I'm probably thr only person hoping for tinted lense but I think it would be glorious.
>>
>>26268690
Well by its description it sounds like its HA will be Swift Swim and I hope that this is the case
>>
>>26268262
Unlike Charizard, grass/flying is a pretty good offensive typing both physical or special. The owl being a bird of prey makes it a great candidate for brave bird and leaf blade is a great move as well. The two of them together give pretty damn good coverage as well. I'm hoping for a high attack stat myself but a special set would probably have a better movepool.
>>
>>26268726
Given that kicking was prominent in its description I also have high hopes for at least a few decent Fighting-type moves in its movepool. Tinted Lens would also be fantastic, and actually has precedent with Noctowl having it.
>>
>>26268769
inb4 just mega kick
>>
I have a good feeling this gen GF will tweak the type weaknesses to balance the game rather than just adding a stopgap type like Fairy. No way they'll make the grass starter that weak.
>>
Like i replied in another thread, theese are the final solutions to me:

Water/Fairy-Psycho - Fire/Fight - Grass/Dark
Water/Fight - Fire/Dark - Grass/Psychic
Water/Dark - Fire/Ghost - Grass /Fight

Its not gonna remain a flying type. That would be that he will need a 4x weakness to the fire starter, but i don't think its gonna be Fire/Rock neither Fire/Electric nor Fire/Ice.
>>
>>26268403
Razor leaf is physical though.

Well, it made Chesnaught worthless, so it's not wrong.
>>

Like thats the most blatant physical sounding move I've heard. Unless your assuming special = ranged. Which is dumb
>>
>>26268814
>Chesnaught
>Charizard pre-Mega
>every Bug/Flying type
>>
>>26268797
Those patterns make absolutely no sense. Why would the fire starter need a 4x SE on the grass starter? And how does fire/rock and fire/electric give it a 4x SE against grass/flying. Ice is the only thing that is 4x SE against it. Electric wouldn't even be SE at all because grass resists it.
>>
>>26268837
Chesnaught isn't useless by any means and the only thing holding him back in OU is Talonflame, one pokemon that still gets completely fucked by Stealth Rocks.

His point was that there are plenty of pokemon with 4x weaknesses that are strong as fuck in OU like Landorus, Heatran, Dragonite, and Garchomp. 4x doesn't mean a pokemon is bad, it means they have counters, there is no difference if Heatran gets hit by a Close Combat from Infernape and gets 1 shot or if he gets hit by a Garchomps Earthquake, both are equally devastating.
>>
This confirm the theory even better. Pattern have ever been there. Looks at delphox, ninja, chestnaught.

Whos the retard now?
>>
>>26269118
How does 600 BST and Flash Fire make Heatran's 4x weakness any different? Chesnaught has a niche in OU as a counter to Conkeldurr, Keldeo, and Landorus-T because he can safely apply Leech Seed on their switch and stall at least one turn with spiky shield and let you switch into a seeded opponent on your counter. If you have rocks, they can't switch into Talonflame to counter it. Having 600 BST doesn't make a pokemon inherently better, many of them have inflated stats they will never use like Dragonite's special attack outside of rain.
>>
>>26269230
He has 4x ice weakness if you swap in Primal Groudon or Kyogre, retard.

Granted, an owl with actual horns would look retarded.
But https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horned_owl
>>
>>26270226
Well, the entire reason we weren't mentioning Horn Leech was because Rowlet doesn't have antlers or horns.
I agree that Rowlet becoming a horned owl and learning Horn Leech would be cool.
>>
>>26270226
Well to be fair as well, Horn Leech is a pretty rare move so its kind of easily looked over
>>
>>26268304
starters nowadays have mediocre to decent stats that are only saved by good abilities
>>
>>26268295
Even then, its weaknesses outweigh its resists. 4x weak to ice, 2x weak to flying with smogon memebird around, probably not going to have a good spread/movepool/ability

>pve story mode

None of those grass moves would fit Rowlet. Maybe seed bomb and leaf blade would, but that's stretching it.

Flying itself is one of the best offensive typings in the game, only being resisted by Electric, Rock, and Steel (the two former of which you almost never see in competitive aside from a select few).

Grass is also a really good offensive typing considering it can hit Water and Ground super effectively, two of the most common typings in the game, plus it can cover Rock and Electric types that Flying moves can't.

If you give Rowlet some kind of Fighting or Fire coverage (like Focus Blast or HP Fire if it's a special attacker) for Steel types, it's pretty much set with one more open slot for Roost or a boosting move.

As long as Rowlet's final evo gets enough speed to be able to remain in the high speed tiers and with an at least useful Hidden Abilily, it should at least be able to hit UU
>>
>>26271902

So basically a physical Sceptile that sacrifices a bit of speed for some more attack. Give it Tinted Lens as its HA and decent STAB moves like Brave Bird and Leaf Blade and it's all set.

Huh. That's actually better than I realized. If it gets a Fighting type move based on the description of talon kicks, it's actually not too bad at all.

ALSO has anyone noticed that recent Grass starters have been less...grassy? Very few of them learn powders and the various disruptive Grass moves.
>>
>>26272032
>>26272066

That's pretty good. So a set of Brave Bird (no doubt it will get that), grass move, fighting move, and roost would bear well for Rowlet.

What would be some fighting moves Rowlet would get? Wake up slap and double kick seem like they're an option. Close combat seems like a bit of a stretch, but if basedraptor can get it, nothing surprises me
