The common theme is that they are all based on nocturnal animals. Or atleast animals that are equally active during night and day. SUN AND MOON. The seal might still turn into a clown though.

I'm trying to say that's not the theme though. It's a bit of a reach to say the bow tie makes the owl a ring leader but they are all definitely nocturnal. Which fits with the games being called sun and moon.

I feel like Rowlet having a ringmaster theme would be a bit uneven compared to the other two. Wouldn't that sorta make him the "leader" compared to the other two?

No real reason other than the arbitrary fact that it doesn't sit right with me.
Also a ringmaster doesn't really have a lot to work with in terms of a concept for a fighter in comparison to a tiger or a seal/circus clown.

There are two theories

Rowlet: Has a whip (Vine Whip), eventually evolves to wear a suit
Litten and Popplio: Self-explanatory
2. Vaudeville theme
Rowlet: Caricatured, slapstick bow-tie, a-la Charlie Chaplin. Evolves to have big eyes and a big nose (Grucho Marx)
Popplio: Clown
Litten: Some type of dancer. It's tail is similar to the "cat of nine tails" dancing whip, or a caricatured leather strap the dancer in this picture. Also, the patterns on its legs may be pantyhose

I like the idea that if it is circus, Litten as the human cannonball.
I already proposed a performer trio theory before, but it's not all circus. Only Popplio is circus based, Litten is a kabuki. Rowlet could be a type of singer I forgot the name of, they typically have those bowties.
