I'm white, and the only problem I have with that idea is that gen 6 introduced different skin colors for trainers and I don't see a reason to remove that.

No because I understand why MCs are white in majority white countries. Most Japanese 2d characters aren't white, they just lack facial profiling that would give them racial distinction. What's why both Japs and whiteys can go "Wow, those characters look like us!"
OP wants them to go about making a black pokemon trainer as the only choice. A character that is not only racially defined but is also of a minority in the real world. I don't think that's right for a game with mass appeal like Pokemon. Maybe a spinoff but not a main title.
Choosing to play as a female is a bit different. Males naturally relate to other males, men playing as a girl either do it for fun or because they're perverts or have issues or something.
You're all fucking racist troglodytes if you think there's anything wrong with this. Especially in the context of gaming where pretty much everyone has been forced to identify with light skinned characters in the majority of games for almost 3 decades.

There was a study done once that stated people like people that look more like them, or at least tend to get along better. That's one of the bases for discrimination.
Basically, white people are not going to play as black people because blacks tend to look much different than whites, not just in skin but facial structure, muscle movements, etc. They might play as girls, but white girls are more similar to white men than black men are to white men.
There was also another study done that said blacks and women generally feel pressure to conform to the stereotypes of their race in certain settings - almost a self fulfilling prophecy for racism. Kind of reminds me of Uncle Ruckus from The Boondocks - why should black people want to be black, when whites seem so much better?
So no, OP, no one in GF's target demographic would be likely to enjoy that decision. You can argue whether or not that's morally right, but at the end of the day all these guys care about is making maximum profit with little effort.
