Pokemon XY is currently the highest rated Pokemon game on metacritic. In a poll conducted by my local Nintendo branch on Facebook, people named either Kanto games (RBY, FRLG) or Kalos games (XY) as their favorite, so it cannot be just be a review bias.
I'm sure that in a couple of years, XY I'll be remembered very fondly.
