I mean, if anything, GF's art team wasn't THAT bad. If they were, we would've seen RSE-tier sprites throughout the GBA-DS titles.
But now they have fully fleshed out 3D models that they don't have to re-create after every game, so I'll give it to you that upping the quality of them at this point really doesn't seem to be part of their game, much to my disapproval.

Tbh, ID the graphics are the same, I would not be bothered in the slightest. They will still be Pokemon. Graphics are certainly not what make a game, and if that's the reason you may or may not get the game, don't get it because you clearly don't want the game.

I love Gen VI's graphical style, especially ORAS, so I would have zero problem with this. All they need is more of the sort of flair BW2 had like its cool cut-ins or in lieu of all its trainer sprites being animated, giving all trainers 3D battle models instead of just a select few and the rest getting 2D portraits.
