Nice Gen II team.
I remember absolutely nothing about Gen 2 except that I liked Chikorita and Totodile, and that I would catch a Poliwag on every playthrough that I could never fully evolve because Johto stones are nonexistent.
Probably cause Johto is filled with random Kanto mons and weird, complacent locations for everything else.

I'd probably use Politoed or something in my playthroughs but I have to trade for them and I can never do that during the story play through. My team is usually Typhlosion/Ampharos/Slowbro and I never actually finished GSC/HGSS because I could never figure out the rest I wanted to use. I always felt compelled to use the Togepi but it's so shit in the original GSC. Same for Sudowoodo except it's still shit in HGSS too

I'm in the minority that barring some minor nitpicks I actually like Barbaracle. It's also actually a pretty decent Pokemon, especially in-game. Getting the Kanto starter in XY kind of made it harder to use some neat Pokemon since you get 2/3rds of the type trio filled out just with them. I still got to try Gogoat though.

I ended up catching a lot of stuff just for the novelty of having them and my team very slowly came together. it worked in the end and everything went a lot more smoothly than expected. When I beat around the bush like that in diamond I ended up getting fucked by the elite four and had to grind so I decided to drop the game for a while.
But yeah I enjoyed barbaracle a lot considering I tend to enjoy more physical water types. I don't know why but they always interest me.

To be honest I'm autistic as fuck when it comes to team building for these games and XY's team more than probably any other game was practically built for you if you wanted to make something like a "character team" which is unfortunately what I force myself to do. You got the two starters, the eevee, and the espurr, so you really had like 2 flex spots, and Gogoat was the earliest new grass-type (and usually I try to go by a gym leader's "signature pokemon" which also happened to be Gogoat, and Gogoat in general was a part of Gamefreak's XY media blitz anyway because of the gogoat riding crap) and the last flex spot went to Noivern who I mostly just used because I liked and I wanted a mountain Kalos pokemon.

Not all of these are my absolute favorites for the region. Hoenn has none of my top four or even my favorite starter. Johto I would've used Skarmory and Ursaring if it weren't for the former not appearing in Crystal and wanting to give Granbull a try making me not use the latter this time, or a different Dark type than Umbreon if it had a good one. W2 I was avoiding mons I used in W1 and also broke my region only rule. Y my tastes in Kalos Pokemon has changed a lot since release, but even then their types overlap a lot, like Delphox and Meowstic, or Dragalgae and Noivern. Kanto and Sinnoh are the only listed teams of choice for their regions.
I ought to replay BW2 and XY sometime soon. I haven't done that for either yet, though I'm not that crazy about the idea of playing XY again. BW2 would be really nice though.
