Chained fished for a Magikarp and got one for a chain of 93. Going to evolve it into a Gyarados because the one from HG was used on my team and i dont like sending my team away from their main game.

I've spent a whole week trying to hatch a shiny Froakie that'll hopefully have Protean. On the bright side I managed to get a regular Froakie that has 6 perfect IVs from one of the eggs, so it's not all bad. After I get this shiny I'll take a short break from shiny hunting to actually raise some of the shiny pokemon I've gotten.

Probably from a stranger. I know a buddy of mine had it well before me, so it could've been off of him, but I wasn't in a rush to use it so it wasn't something I paid attention to.
Although, in the case of my OR cart, I got the ticket from myself. Just made sure to turn on streetpass, closed the systems until I saw the notification light, and then claimed my ticket.

You can get one by streetpassing, homepassing or an event. An interesting thing is that if you got one via the first two methods, if you play in another card (say, you got it with your AS and then play in an OR), the game will automatically give you one for that card.

There is no average time. Your odds are 1/512. Theoretically, you could get bad rolls until the end of time. You could also get it on the first try.
I've gotten some the day or hour I started looking. Other hunts, I gave up on after different periods, because I got sick of looking at the same mon.
That's why I said, stick to arbitrary numbers. It'll at least make you feel like some progress is made, even if moves you no closer to the goal.

Horde, for sure. You're encountering 4/5 at once. It's not even a comparison.

That way, I'm building up a backlog while hatching a few eggs.
