I just finished my shiny snivy and now I'm moving on and starting to hunt for shellder.
I'm going for a shiny female Ralts through MM on ORAS. I'm still early into the game. Just started the other day, and I am at 300 eggs hatched. Been hatching eggs while watching hockey.
My last hunt was for a shiny Espurr in the Friend Safari.

Soft resetting for Giratina, bit a long process having to soar before I encounter him but it will be worth it I hope.

SRing for Cobalion while doing hordes on Victory Road on Y. Got shiny Ivysaur and Machoke from FS earlier today.

Saturday I got sassy Oddish using DexNav (despite my Synchronize Gardevoirs). I really want that lime-orange Vileplume to use in-game. I'll be giving this one to my girlfriend, who will evolve it to Bellossom.
Sunday I got a Modest HA Magnemite in a horde battle while building up the search level for Voltorb.
Now I've been DexNaving for that beautiful blue Voltorb.
Too bad I can't be bothered tocatch 'em all.

That's exactly what follows out of that train of thought. What made you chucklefucks think a Japanese 6IV Ditto is legit in any way given the odds to get a 6IV pokemon in the wild. Those Jap Ditto have been hacked, cloned and then passed around and obviously that makes their offspring illegit by default.

Got this little fella around the 140 egg mark. It has imperfect defense, vital spirit, male, and 4 egg moves.
I had never breed for a line with a baby pokemon and I must say it was a pain. I had to evolve a lot of Magby to Magmar while chain breeding. Not to mention that I had to spend 2 days waiting for the correct mirage spot to show up (I wanted the hidden ability)

I do not mean to burst any bubbles here, but if you did not obtain your pokemon through normal circumstances in the game (Be it directly or indirectly) then your pokemon is NOT legit. It's that simple. Legit is actually slang for the word legitimate, which means real or official. The 6IV Ditto(directly) or its offspring(indirectly) are in no way legit.

Going for the Living Shiny Dex so I've been knocking out a lot of the chain fishing shinies in X this week. Poliwag, Poliwhirl, Basculin, Dragonair, Clauncher, Clamperl, Chinchou, Remoraid and Corsola all down, but still quite a few more to go. Now I'm hunting in a Fire type friend safari just as a bit of a break, it's got Pyroar, Magmar and Ninetales but I don't really mind which I get.

Even though the ditto is hacked and has flawless stats that is just made to make things easier because we can easly play the game in Japanese and breed 6 ivs for EVERY single egg group but that would take ages. When you breed something new it just takes the iv of the parents so it doesn't matter if its hacked in or not it won't take illegal abilities or moves. Its in a way cheating to make our lives easier but the shinies we hatch are legit and have put into then a lot of sweat and hard work.
If you consider this method too cheap for you fine do it the long way but it won't have any effect on the shinies.

Strictly speaking the HP doesn't count since it's more of a consequence based on the others.
The HP is based on the binaries of the other DVs. It takes the rightmost digit from the binary of the other four DVs and uses it to form its own.
For example, a shiny has 10 in defense, speed and special, all are even and translate to 1010 in binary. Attack is more accesible and can be even or uneven. If it is uneven it will always have a 1 on its rightmost digit, if it's not it will have a 0.
The reason shinies can only have 0 or 8 in HP is defense, speed and special take 0XXX in the HP binary in that order respectively. As they are always 10, they're even and always contribute a 0 to it. Attack being the leftmost, translates to 2^3, so 8. If it's even, it's another 0, otherwise it's a 1 which adds 8.

It's legit as any random pokemon you can find!
The thing is, some people consider it semi-legit.
Example:
Lets place 100 balls in one box. Some of them are bigger, others are small, and one of them has a different color. The bigger balls are better, but the colorful one looks dope.
Now I pick one ball blinded, hoping for luck. I keep doing this until I get the ball I desire. This what happens for those who do not abuse RNG.
Now imagine that the box is made of glass, and I know where the balls I want land. I will pick them again. But I know where the balls are; the chances I get the ball I want are high.
The thing is: RNG results are so legit as a normal random result. The problem is in the ethics, because I know how the game mechanics work and I can effectively get whatever I want. This goes against the "randomness" the developers always wanted pokémon to be.
However, the developers did a great job with 6th gen RNG. It's encrypted with some 3ds variables, that are hard to predict.
Yeah. From gen 2 to 5 RNG evolved in two ways:
Easy to understand (2nd) to Hard to understand (5th)
Hard to abuse (2nd) to Easy to abuse (5th)

RNG success is 100%. Totally worth learning 3rd-4th gen. 5th gen maybe, but there aren't many good tutorials on it.
4th gen is where you generate some beasts. 3rd gen is mainly used for learning the basics and some moveset combinations to be carried out to the new gens.
I suggest you to find a dry battery ruby/saphire.
If you have external cheating devices, try emerald !! NON DRY BATTERY !! these cheats will only be used to get your SID quickly and for the deoxys/mew event.
4th gen is all about seeds. Once you hit the seed, the rest is easy. Have atleast one sinnoh game and hg or ss.
5th gen I don't really care about. I'm focused on 6th gen rng research

Got my second blueduck. The first one was a Dexnav catch months ago. This one has 5 IV (Def missing), Swift Swim and is male. I'm gonna evolve him and keep the shitty one has a Psyduck. In case you're wondering why I breed this mon thats because its my all time favorite.

It's RNG abuse. I can't pull this in ORAS. Main reason is because the 3ds variables are heavily encrypted. The luck is in the fact that hitting a shiny still has differences of miliseconds. It took me 4 attempts. Regice and Registeel took me around 25+calibration.

I found a shiny poochyena in emerald, meh! At least I'm not afraid to use it unlike my gyarados which is boxed. It's a mightyena now.
Questions about RNG:
0. I heard before that emerald doesn't have a true RNG and that there is chance that you will never see a shiny. I found a shiny poochyena like I mentioned before and early on I even caught wild pokerus. Any of this without even trying. Can you explain what people mean when they talk about emerald's RNG?
1. Do I need an external cheating device? My emerald battery just died if that matters.
2. Is there a chance it can ruin my save by causing bugs like some types of cheating?
3. Any beginner guides for emerald and fire red RNG? Whenever I read something about RNG it assumes so much stuff I don't know anything about.
4. I used my masterball for roaming legendaries. Is that bad?

Good questions mate! Lets go through them:
0 - You heard it right. You can refer to Emerald as a game that has a broken RNG. We still call it RNG, but it's broken, since it wasn't intended to work like that. R/S/FR/LG have perfectly normal RNG. What happens to Emerald is the same that happens with a Dry Battery R/S game. The seed (what generates the list of pokes' qualities you can get when you start the game) is constant, 5A0 for R/S and 0 to Emerald. And since the seed is constant, everything is constant, and the RNG becomes a matter of time. You can get shinies at the same frames everytime.
1 - RNG is what makes Pokémon feel Random.
abusing a random number generator doesn't require cheats. Unless you want to skip some hard steps you have to take to actually start abusing (secret ID for instance). Emerald is often abused to get a legit shiny mew. Mew is only obtainable through the ticket. To get the ticket you need cheats...
But to abuse, you don't really need cheats. You can also abuse your TID/SID and create a game file that make certain frames shiny. TID/SID only matters to get shinies. Emerald dead battery is the same as the regular Emerald.
2 - If it is masterball cheats, or wild modifiers yeah. top kek. Abusing RNG has nothing to do with messing with external cheating devices. It's the same as pressing buttons on the right time!
3 - Emerald has a ton of guides. But there are few guides on Fire Red RNG. It's just not worth it abusing FR/LG.
4 - I always keep the masterball to check the frame I hit when I'm abusing for Shinies.

If it's a physical attacker, there's no point in going for Sp attack, so 0 Sp attack may as well be 6iv. There is no special version of confusion damage, so iv's don't matter for that stat. For Special attackers, 0 in attack is better than 31.

But no he asked if he should fill boxes. If he's still getting the urge to fill boxes before he's gotten his IV's locked in he shouldn't fill more than 1, since the more he breeds with the non-ideal parents the more likely he is to hit a shiny before the parent swap. 5 egg party checks are most efficient, yes.
