I actually lost to a trainer in Erika's gym because of Wrap.
And you know what? I felt happy. I felt happy it was actually possible for me to lose to a trainer and force myself to stategize around Wrap and save a faster Pokemon to get around this. I can't do this in newer games because every goddamnned thing has been casualized to the point of brainlessness.

Its as simple as not using it, because for the most part you probably won't need to use it? Maybe if you for whatever reason let the later greedy trainers greed and 1hko with 2fast speed then sure.
The "casualness" seems to be very much an option rather than forced.
