Thankfully, GOD came and saved us from both issues.

it was fun because you could not just run around in grass and level like shit and get whatever pokemon you wanted it was somewhat of a challenge

Actually I thought the trainers that you could rematch any time made it a lot easier. Took much less time to grind than it does in the victory road.

An overabundance of gen 2 shitmons since it was the only legitimate way to get them in gen 3 at the time

I also remember the level curve being kind of wonky in the lategame
>>
>>26189899
Yeah, I remember that too, and overall the main game felt a little rushed because of that. I suppose that's why they had Mt. Battle in there, but that feels like a cop out.
>>
>>26189944
Didn't most of the rematchable trainers scale upwards based on your progress anyway
>>
>>26189977
In both Colosseum and GoD the Mt. Battle trainers tend to level linearly, but every 2 floors or so their levels jump by like 10. So when grinding in both games with these guys it at first took forever to take down a floor of guys 10+ my level, then eventually I managed to match them.

Mt. Battle is best played leveling up a couple weaker mons, as long as you already have someone strong to get you through the later floors.

Syncing a FRLG/RS team to Colosseum and playing the Mt. Battle challenge with them was the best, though.
>>
It seems like battles took forever. I don't get why they decided to make it exclusively double battles.
>>
>>26189289
They didn't make more.
>>
>>26189289
It was released on the gamecube.

No seriously, the gamecube is like an early 2000's Wii-U. Bad system specs, Amazing Games, poor sales do to bad marketing.

The games got the shaft do to the console being objectively bad....and poor marketing.

Nintendo really needs to hire a new marketing director.

>Time for honesty. I know it just ripped shit on the gamecube, but, I still liked it.

Nintendo seems to do good at making a console that THEY can optimally program and develop games on, hence why most* Nintendo games are pretty good. But, they suck at thinking about third parties trying to program on it too.

Maybe it's not the marketing teams fault after all....Hell, you try selling your console to developers with the tagline, "Develop for Nintendo. Our system specs are objectively worse than our competitors, and our data storage is sub-par and odd at best." Mini-disks, FTW?
>>
>>26190181
It's a bit better, Gamecube actually sold well enough.
The system was apparently(?) stronger than the PS2, just annoying to program for. Lack of 3rd party support hurt a bit but damn was it better than that shitty N64 period. Also remember that the PS2 was one of the cheapest DVD options for a while, so of course it blew up in sales.

It would be neat to get another Colosseum because as cool as Stadium and PBR were, I really want to see that uniqueness come back. Double battle only felt fresh, which is why I can go back and play it without feeling like the Phys/Spec split was that rough.

inability to turn off animations and nothing but constant trainer fights make the game unnecessarily slow, but to be fair, this has been a core problem since the series' inception

It's a series that just doesn't work on consoles.
They used a radically different style that doesn't fit the series.
By being just a story mode with only trainer battles, it didn't have the same feeling of exploration.
>>
>>26190181
It blows my mind that for being such a shit system, the GameCube had so many fun games, many of them at launch. Even if they weren't the "best", they were so timeless and enjoyable.

>Melee
>Sunshine
>Luigi's Mansion
>Pikmin
>Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door
>Colosseum
>Tales of Symphonia
>Crystal Chronicles
>Metroid Prime

I beg to differ. I personally happened to like "edgy" Pokemon... It was surprisingly cool

Could have used more outdoor areas and dungeon-like areas to navigate. Too many hallways in buildings and MT BATTLE
I liked it, though, double battles aren't normally my thing but the entire game being double battles made it have a totally different feel than the main games

Fighting Shadow Entei for the first time was still one of the most memorable "boss battles" I've had in pokemon. That was some good shit.
>>
I loved the story aspect of the game, but was highly disappointed by the Colosseum aspect. I was expecting a Pokemon Stadium 3, but got a somewhat better game.

The story mode was awesome, it was something different and new, considering I had never played a Dungeon or Ranger game at the time.
Catching all the Pokes and making them happy, then finally getting them to evolve was a fun challenge.

When I actually did play the Colosseum, finally beating it, granted by cheating, to finally get Ho-oh was pretty sweet.

That Jirachi was pretty nice, too.
>>
>>26191815
The shiny Zigzagoon was a nice touch, as well.

Dunno if this was intentional or not, though.

Shadow Rush causing recoil damage.

You could only save at PCs.

Most of the Pokemon available were underwhelming Gen 2 Pokemon.

Useless support character; Gale of Darkness fixed this with a SIMPLE SCANNER.

The level curve was atrocious.

That one Shadow Remoraid that was level 20, when everything else was ~33 at the time.

Purifying took way too long. Without constant grinding, you would amass a tremendous Shadow Pokemon backlog.

Shadow Pokemon having their other moves locked away until they get to a certain stage in the purification process.

Backtracking was immense if you were the slightest bit underprepared.

The Free Battle mode had a watered-down rental system.

Did I get it all?

Starfox Adventures

No, really. While some people don't seem to like the adventure aspects of the game, I think they were great. Zelda with Starfox, basically, and just the right difficulty for 12-year-old me.
>>
>>26191330
Im still salty that Sunshine hasnt appeared on the wii u VC yet. I miss that game.
>>
Having your Pokémon selection being mostly limited to shitters while having the bosses and level curve it has is certainly the big issue for me. The other being the god awful purification methods requiring me to leave my GameCube on all night.

Thank fuck GoD fixed both issues.
>>
Nothing. XD and Colosseum both have good and bad things about them. Colosseum had bad variety of Pokemon, but it was fun, because your team would change so much. XD removed the Under. Enough said.

The GameCube was stronger and easier to program for then the PS2. The issue development wise was Nintendo going with mini disks instead of normal disks.

>What went wrong?

Genius Sorority stopped making these kind of games.
I always wonder if GF resented them because Pokémon games seem to go out of their way to ignore Orre and all its shit, whereas Ranger games were significantly subparrer and were acknowledged.

The discs that tested your battle creativity were GOAT. Puzzles + Battle Mechanics, no other Pokémon game ever came close to doing it so well.

My nigga. Puzzle battle were amazing and a good way to use forgotten moves.
I can't understand why mainline games are afraid of showing the actual game mechanics. It's been 20 years and we still have to look at the stats of pokemon from external sources

That shit was amazing. Genius Sorority explored strategies better in two games than Gamefreak ever has period.
>>
>>26195484
That's part of why I really liked set doubles as the default style, it put a lot more emphasis on strategy than the main games even with basic stuff like rain dance+thunder or earthquake+protect
>>
>>26195434

>Use Conversion2 with Porygon2 to turn into Rock, Ghost, or Steel type
>This survives the enemy Graveler's Selfdestruct

Loved this shit.
>>
>>26195530
This. Later Mt. Battle trainers tended to use common doubles strategies, so you couldn't just bruteforce your way through without having some trouble. It was great.
