If you're on 10.5 or lower, you just need to use Browserhax to get to the homebrew launcher and run the downgrade tool.
If you're on 10.6 or 10.7, you need something like Cubic Ninja/OoT/Super Mystery Dungeon, and if the latter two you also need some method like Powersaves to get the hacked save file on there (which destroys your PSMD save, I have to emphasize in case you want to casually try it).
I mean, if you have homebrew access you could just use that to inject, but you really should downgrade and set up EmuNAND even if you don't plan on pirating so you can always be sure you're able to go online, since they'llmaybeeventually patch the exploit.

If you follow the retard guide /hbg/ has in their OP and doublecheck your downgrade files so they're the right firmware, you have no chance of hardbricking, and only like a 1% chance of softbricking (which is easily fixed but you have to update your firmware, which if they patch it means you don't get another shot).
One big piece of advice: format your system before trying to downgrade, please. I softbricked twice before I succeeded because I didn't format those two times. There's a chance of succeeding without formatting but you're near-guaranteed if you do format. Even if something fucks up and you can't downgrade, you'll be able to get your games back as long as your NNID is linked to your system.
