genesect could easily be a kabutops or ancient scyther or scizor before team plasma altered it.
same thing with the porygon family, only different species via human alteration.
After four years since the official reveal, a movie, and several pieces of in-game data, not once has it been stated or implied Genesect was a Kabutops. Instead everything points towards it being its own species, named "Genesect" even before being modified.The truth is that Gamefreak probably designed it as a cyborg bug first and foremost, with the head shape intended to resemble a car's face and complement the beetle-like flight mode. The origin story was just an afterthought. Nobody cared about Bane until he put on the mask.

Genesect's body, arms and legs are very different though. It has three sections like an insect, while Kabutops appears to have two.
The only real resemblance is the large, flat head.
There's no way Genesect can be Kabutops.
Team Plasma wanted to use all of the original creature's battle prowess and amplify it extreme levels via technology, right?
So why the fuck would they replace those huge fucking SCYTHES and replace them with generic insect arms?
It's not like those arms are improvements. They can't fire energy blasts, the energy blasts come out of the cannon on its back (which is a little random as well considering Kabutops didn't HAVE any body part on which a cannon would fit) so what gives?
Besides the resemblance in body shape, it's actual DESIGN from a battle standpoint just seems odd and out of place. You get a Pokemon that's whole purpose is to assassinate it's prey using huge scythes, and then you TAKE AWAY said Scythes? What the fuck?
