Maybe you weren't there for RSE. 6 mons, each buffing a stat then passing out, with a substitute up. It wasn't that it was necessarily OP, it was just the only thing you would ever fight. Dozens of sequential opponents running the same general team. Not unlike today, actually.
Baton Pass was an uncompetitive strategy that gave any idiot a great chance to win. Though I don't like that you can't pass Speed and other stats, that makes no sense. Limiting how many Baton Passers you can have on one team was enough.

Got banned after one player figured out a really, really good team. Plus Scolipede instead of fragile Ninjask. Wasn't very common before Denisssss.
