The part about darkness has definitely been true since they brought it back in Gen IV. It's way too bright. Gen 2 had it perfect with its limited palette.

Very true. Lots of recent designs are very bubbly and cartoony, while most older designs are tough and rugged. Gen 6 got better though

If it were comparing Gen 1 to later gens everyone would be screaming their heads off, but since it's Gen 2 oh that's perfectly fine.
All of this is just ''oh it was better way back then because opinionated reasons'' bullshit. I'm glad the artstyle changed, I'm happy with the night time looks fine, and the reason that cave looks lighter is because the player is clearly using TM Flash to light it up. Fucking ridiculous.
GS was literally the best pokemon game. New pokes, lots of new mechanics, new map and then you get to see gen 1 in the future. I love playing new games but it's lost divinity as its aged.

Also as Masuda openly admitted it in an interview, they are going to make games easier and easier for adapt to today's market (filled with entry level casual games that aren't hard). Not that previous pokémon games were hard, but somehow they thought they needed to lower difficulty even more.
