Here are a list of what I don't like about it:
1)It's leg and arm proportions make it look so awkward, looks like a 2 year old drew it (which is probably what happened).
2)It's "Chesnaught shell" looks like a blanket rather than a shell.
3)Almost everything from the previous evo was taken off. That didn't happen to any of the previous grass starters.
What I like:
1)It's a grass type (my favorite type).
2)It's a starter. All starter lines are at least decent imo.

Well a lot of that is opinion, can't really say anything else. Though I don't think there was much as a change as you think from Quilladin - Chesnaught. He still keeps his face and his little brown pattern. You can tell its part of the line. I think what gets me with Chesnaught is he looks just as innocent as Chespin, though while doing so he's huge.

Bayleef is great.

I would say Venasaur's design is considerably more generic and uninteresting honestly

Infernape and Emboar are both based on journey to the west characters so they have a connection. And Samurott and Greninja kinda have a theme, next water starter better be a viking or a pirate. Maybe they'll stick to japanese warriors and make it some sort of martial artist.

Meganium's my favorite Johto starter and I always thought Chikorita was cute, and Bayleef has so much personality compared to a lot of other second stagers.
I know she's not practical in competitive play but it makes me sad when so many people call it the worst line, it was always my favorite.

The only way to get Leech Seed on Chikorita is through breeding, so if you're playing through the game with it as your starter that's a no-go. For ingame, I like

>Body Slam/Rock Climb
setting up screens can save your bacon if/when you come across trainers with a significant level advantage over your team, like any of the gym leaders or elite 4. Paralysis/confusion from the normal type move is always nice, and the fourth slot is a generic STAB grass move.

In the GBC games it was really good since it was one of the few pokemon that could learn the screens by level up and at early levels to boot and was the only grass type that could learn earthquake.
