Yes.
If you like him, I'd suggest playing with Smogon rules and just doing RU baattles. He's very comfortable on that tier. Playing with the actual games will be a pain, but it's doable as long as you find him a niche or a role in your team that no one else can dobetter.
That's the fucking challenge, but it's probably doable? Maybe?
Run some damage calcs on showdown and see what gives.

Close Combat won't help. Just like Flare Blitz didn't help Flareon. The problem is you have a pokemon with a stat of 65 in Speed and both Defenses. Emboar is outspeed by a lot of Pokemon. Even with a Choice Scarf there are still Pokemon that outspeed it.

Well yeah. It has good HP, but besides having low defenses, it gets Super'd by a lot of common stuff.
The fact that is a pyshical pokey that gets super by Scald, then it can get completely crippled by a burn is really sad.

I've been using Subpunch with Flare Blitz and Sucker Punch in Smogon OU. It works pretty well against Mega Sableye since Emboar is immune to the Burn status. My EV spread is 200HP/252Att/52Spe Adamant with Leftovers. You can also set up Substitute when facing Chansey as it takes two Seismic Toss's to break the Sub.

A mega would be amazing for him. He already has amazing HP which is 90% of the problem with most bad megas, and his attack stats are so high he's bound to get the majority of his stats in either speed or defenses, either of which would make him jump at least a tier or two.
