How did Grass manage what Rock and Ice couldn't?
>>
With Steel.

Also I hate Ferrothorn, thank god for Taunt.

Steel most certainly helps.
>>
>>26062173
Grass types most of the time have Giga Drain, Synthesis, Leech Seed, Aromatherapy, sometimes also Harvest, Horn Leech, Spore, Effect Spore etc.

Basically, they have a lot of recovery and support possibilities that Rock and Ice usually don't have
>>
>>26062181
These are also Chesnaught, Amoonguss and Mega Venusaur, though. And probably a few I am forgetting.
>>
>>26062173
Grass has good resists. Rock and Ice don't. It's that simple.
>>
>>26062292
Tangrowth is pretty good too
>>
>>26062292
Chesnaught is shit and Poison is a good defensive typing when you get rid of the ground weakness. Wheezing was pretty good for a while too.

Nobody actually genuinely likes this piece of shit and treats it as one of their favorite mons, right?

It's the cornerstone of Gen V's shit designs and its been a cancerous tumor in competitive ever since then.

Pretty much every single fuckhead online had this thing on their teams in Gen V. It drives me fucking mad.
>>
>>26062337

It is one of my favorite Grass-types period. I didn't even realize it was good in competitive until later (not that it matters, as I don't play competitive).
>>
>>26062292
Chesnaught is a shitmon that dies in two hits max. Only Amoongus and Mega Venusaur are legit.
>>
>>26062337
I'm sorry your Ledian is so shit Karenfag

Chesnaught is fucking great. Deals with fire like its nothing.
>>
>>26062347
But why? It doesn't even look Grass related. Even saying its inspired by durians is a stretch (Ferroseed Ill give you at least). It just looks like something from Ben 10.

Then again, the fact that you can't extrapolate what Iron Barbs and a Steel typing means for anything outside of story mode means I shouldn't take anything you say seriously anyways. Your "bro" is cancer shit, end of story.
>>
>>26062292
Thick Fat removes the Fire and Ice weakness which are probably the two biggest weaknesses Grass faces and Amoonguss has the advantage of Regenerator, in both cases, Poison probably helps too.

>Steel type
Than i don't think Ice was meant as a defence type, at least not as rock was meant to.
>>
>>26062337
It's one of my favorite grass types but I've never used it on a team before because it just adds more Fighting and Fire weaknesses to my team.

So pathetic.
>>
>>26062173
shit tons of special snowflake moves like leech seed, synthesis, aromatherapy, giga drain, spore/sleep powder, etc etc
rock and ice meanwhile have stealth rock (which everyone has anyway) and freeze dry (lol)
>>
>>26062337
It's my favorite Grass-type design along with Breloom and Mow-Rotom.
>>
>>26062337
eh i kinda dig it. like a hard nut so tough it's made out of steel.
>>
>>26062337
I had so much fun with ferroseed in black and white. It was underleveled but after I slapped on a rocky helmet the team plasma grunts just kept killing themselves with fury swipes (seriously most of them had nothing but normal and dark attacks)
>>
>>26062425

>It's my favorite Grass-type design along with Breloom and Mow-Rotom.

Absolutely patrician taste, chum.
>>
>>26062194
Steel can't help Rock, though. And I think Steel/Ice is hypothetically one of the worst type combinations, too.
>>
>>26062432

This was exactly my experience as well. I couldn't not love the fucker after watching him make every NPC go full retard.
>>
>>26062417
Avalugg, Glaceon, Cryogonal, Lapras, Articuno, Cloyster
>>
>>26062337
Ferrothorn has a great design, you limp wristed, shrivel dicked, spastic piece of human excrement. Not everything has to be a fucking edgy dragon.
>>
>>26062447

All of those but Cloyster are fucking terrible though, and it's largely to do with their typing.

>not liking one of the most well-designed pokemon from gen v
>>
>>26062466
Exactly, but they are also all intended to be defensive Pokémon.
Cloyster is good purely for Shell Smash turning it into a fragile sweeper
>>
I've no problem with it.

I already run fire-type coverage on most of my sweepers because steel types in general are common as fuck, so it usually gets its ass handed to it.
>>
>>26062347
>That artwork
Ma nigga
>>
>>26062447
>glaceon
>articuno

Maybe Cloyster but it's known more as a wallbreaking shell smasher now.
>>
>>26062479
he's retarded, we ascertained that.
>>
>>26062173
Grass has very specific and important resists in water, electric, and ground. It also has really good moves. Ice literally has no resists besides itself. Rock is mostly a poor man's Steel in terms of resists and TTar is so much better than every other Rock type that it makes the situation worse. Both types have few support moves.
>>
>>26062417

Defensive FE ice types:
- Articuno
- Lapras
- Avalugg
- Cryogonal
- Regice
- Glaceon
- Cloyster

Bulky sweeper (defensive and offensive, slow speed)
- Abomasnow
- Mamoswine
- Glalie
- Rotom-Frost
- Vanilluxe
- Beartic
- Dewgong
- Walrein

Fast hitter
- Jynx
- Froslass
- Weavile
- Kyurem

Unranked
- Delibird

-----

So yeah, GF does have the tendency to shove ice types in a defensive role they can't fulfill.

Most of them have abysmal stat spreads and useless abilities

Lugia is good even though psychic is literally never a good type for a pokemon to have because it has a good ability and great stats

I know /vp/ hates thinking and just parrots whatever the first autist who opens his mouth has to say but apply yourself next time
>>
OP of the What do you think of these Gen 5 Pokes thread here. The Ferrothorn line is a day away and I'm seriously going to question why it's design is looked down upon by a lot of people.
>>
>>26062990

Most people don't know what a Durian is so they miss out on its inspiration.

It's my Nuzlocke bro. Walled enemies for days. Also it's got an amazing design. A friend also used one ingame and now it's one of his favorites.

So yeah, people like it. Ferrothorn a best.
>>
>>26062990
I guess it's cool, never used one before.
It looks super trollsy on the showdown replays
>>
>>26062796
>Defensive FE ice types
>Glaceon
I think it's more a kind of bulky attacker
>Bulky sweeper
>Mamoswine
That thing can't take a shit, it's pretty fragile
>Fast hitter
>Kyurem
95-bspeed-tier it's shit to me for a sweeper. I think it's more of a bulky sweeper (Kyu-b).
Then at least rock got recistances, ice got only one resistance to itself, pretty common weakness. I must admit some ice pokémon are clearly designed as a tank even if they actually don't bright at doing it for me.
>>
>>26062796
>>26063035
Also Cloyster. Even if it was designed as a defensive mon, nobody actually played it as a bulky spinner as he was meant to be back in bw days. I remember that shit being spammed with that ignorant shell smash set everywhere.
>>
>>26062796
mamo isn't a sweeper, i's a wallbreaker and/or lead
>>
>>26062173
>extremely useful resistances (Water, Ground)
>oodles of recovery options (Leech Seed, Synthesis, Giga Drain, Aromatherapy)
>good STAB moves for every occasion (Giga Drain or Leaf Storm, Seed Bomb/Leaf Blade/Petal Blizzard or Wood Hammer/Power Whip, Bullet Seed if you're Breloom)
>status out the ass
>not-actually-bad-in-practice weaknesses to Bug and Poison
There are many reasons. Suffice to say that GameFreak doesn't actually hate Grass like it does Rock and Ice.
>>
>>26063035
>>26063111
>>26063179

I'm going off of BST.
>>
>>26063185
And as of Gen 6 very important resistances to spore and powder status moves
>>
>>26062435

Not if we get a fast offensive one with dual priority Burrito/Shard. And a good physical Ground move that gets high distribution, there's a move that fits this criteria but it's presently escaping me.
>>
