Contests came back, but they should have been wifi too. Secret Base though was great yet again, and being able to actually fly around in the air is an amazing thing. Sure, Fly is much faster but now you don't even need to worry about having a Fly person in your team anymore.
I was a bit disappointed at first when all the leaks hit and everyone was just down on it, but honestly, the game felt really nice. I feel bad for the little things it didn't bring back, but I would not say it's a step-down from RSE.
Hell, I'd say /vp/ almost ruins my experiences with new games, since I go in thinking about what they DIDN'T add in instead of having both sides. It's always great to have people criticize a game but it's awful when people who defend their own opinion get shit on for it. But yknow, 4chan.

It's true that the Kanto Safari Zone does have more plot relevance than the rest, but I'm sure Ohmori, if he made a Red reremake, would've just had the Warden directly give you Surf and Strength or moved one of the two HMs to another town if he wanted to remove the Safari Zone. Having special Pokémon you can only get via special catching events like the Safari Zone or the Bug-Catching Contest (or so I think for the latter, I only recently played a hack of Johto that has that and can't remember if vanilla also had exclusives) is something I feel adds to the game, as long as it isn't DPPt Spiritomb-tier obtuse.

Yeah, exactly. I feel bad almost, that I wasn't able to enjoy the Pokemon Search thing as much because of my boxes being full of my Living Dex, and the legendaries at the end were all caught anyways. ORAS WERE bad though. The main reason is that they were remakes of R/S, which were set in the worst region. Hoenn just seems so bland and forgettable to me. The GCN games set in Orre were the only good thing to come out of gen 3 other than abilities.
