There's a large difference in the CPU clockspeed and the memory available. I am pretty sure it's not gonna run smoothly on O3DS.
Apache Thunder made patches for XY/ORAS making them able to benefit from the N3DS clock speed, though I have yet to try it out myself.

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt since up to until now Nintendo just redesigned the shape of their handhelds which didn't really alter gameplay beside changes in screen size. The only exception being Dsi but that only added a camera and a online shop for dsi games and stuff. Nobody was really expecting something like the new3ds from nintendo.
