In gen 1, nothing could heal confusion status, unlike any other status in the game. Starting in gen 2, full heal, full restore, and the bitter berry could heal it ( with persim berry coming later). All eveelutions are outclassed by pokemon that do the job a lot better (with the exception of Umbreon maybe)
Alakazam > Espeon
Every other physical fire type > Flareon
Suicune > Vaporeon
Raikou/M-Manectric > Jolteon
Venusaur/Chesnaught/Sceptile > Leafeon
Lapras/Mamoswine > Glaceon
M-Gardevoir > Sylveon
Mandibuzz > Umbreon

That being said, they aren't completely useless, but usually outclassed. Some comparisons are a bit wonky, but there aren't many good defensive ice- or dark-types
>>
>>Bite is a normal type move in gen 1
>>
>>26000166
Really only Sylveon and Espeon to an extent are good. Jolteon isn't really worth using when Raikou, M-Manectric, and Heliolisk exist.
>>
>>26002409

Vaporeon actually fills a different role than Suicune because it has access to heal bell and wish to support its team. Suicune is better on its own but offers less to its partners. Same goes for Umbreon vs Mandibuzz, although Mandibuzz does offer defog support.

A lof of Gen 4 mons started showing up before the end of Gen 3. Probably why I wanted Gen 3 to just die because it wouldn't end and they kept teasing us over and over with new Pokemon that weren't in the main handheld games yet

On the subject of Wurmple and stupud shit people actually believed, I always thought Wurmple evolved into Silcoon and Cascoon depending on the time of the day because of what the Prima Strategy guide said. I never understood how that worked because Gen 3 removed Day/Night.

I wouldn't say it was a good story, but at least the shit with your rivals wasn't a field trip like X/Y
