Well, some people would probably argue that the game becomes better with these features. Changin clothes is certainly reasonable as the climate change (as it does when you travel around), and it can help make you more immersed in the game and make it more "believable" in a sense.
I don't mind customization being gone, but saying it's a waste of resources is completely bullshit as we clearly don't know how much effort went into it.
