It took them until BW2 to pander to the people that actually play the game, the trainers hold items now (smogon-tier) and XY improved on that even more.

I was caught completely off-guard by this post as I'm used to a majority of people here saying that Gamefreak has abandoned their fans to chase the smartphone audience instead. Which I don't really believe myself, but it's hard not to adopt that impression yourself if that's what one mostly gets to read.
But yeah, I don't see why they wouldn't at least listen to the opinions of Japanese fans to really hit the ball out of the park for the special games that Sun Moon will be.

Well the games have gotten easier. It's easier to get perfect IV pokemon.
But people seem to confuse what otherwise would be rolling a dice over and over for actual difficulty. The games themselves have also become easier, but the post-game has gotten more and more detail put into it.
Hell, they didn't even give a shiny charm back in the fucking day.
