I agree in a way; I did wish that a third game could salvage Kalos. A lot of wasted potential there, plot-wise and content-wise.
But at the same time, if a new gen can actually be decent on delivery I'd prefer something new.

I doubt trainer customization will return, but I at least hope for Amie and other gen 6 mechanics to come back, and improved
