There will be a trailer coming soon for Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon, which I have seen. It's a worldwide reveal similar to X and Y.
The trailer shows glimpses of the new region, and seems to highlight the stark contrast between rural, naturistic areas and the big, modern cities. There are some shots of the protagonist (male and female, clothes seem 'summery' which suits the tropical vibe) running through various locations. For example, a village with wooden cabins (surrounded by trees). A cool wide-angle shot on the rim of a firey volcano. And a generic city area.
There is a scene showing the protagonist gripping a Seaking's horn as he rides up a waterfall, though I'm not sure if that's an overworld thing, or just part of a Gym puzzle.
There is an exchange between two people that the protagonist watches - one is what I'd describe as a green-clothes version of Grant with braided hair. Very hippy-like. The other is a man in a black suit, like a business magnate. Hippy Grant is arguing about building construction destroying the habitats/landscape or something to that effect.
The starters are revealed! The first one is... strange. It's a green bird, but its wings are tiny and it looks flightless. It has an owl-y face and chunky feet. Grass-type. The second one is a red squirrel, Fire-type obviously. It seems to have a wisp of smoke trailing from its bushy tail. The last one is a bluey-grey coloured elephant calf, the Water-type. It squirts water from its nose in the picture.
(I didn't remember the names except the squirrel, it's something like Emberrel. The grass one began with Ka_____ )
At the end of the trailer, the sun and moon are shown in-game and there's a millisecond of (presumably legendary pokemon) eyes flashing open before the game logos appear and end the trailer.

An Elephant would be good if the region was south pacific only if Borneo/SE Asia was included in South Pacific.
Flightless bird is excellent because as is the case in New Zealand an Island with no predators creates flightless birds.
Fire Squirrel does't fit Zodiac but it would fit south east asia.
If this is real which I don't think it is this would confirm Singapore/SE asia theories.
