That'd be kind of cool. Make the two separate species like the Nidos and have the male be normal/fire with a decent special attack and the female pure normal with a better physical attack. Male could have some flashy ability like intimidate while the female could have adaptability or something.

Yep, that's pretty much an indication that the majority of the pokemon fanbase lacks an artistic mind. Which is sad as pokemon is one of the few monster-based franchises where the developers put intense creativity on monster designs and try their best to not design them in a forced, pandering way.

Since they're literally yokai, they're allowed to be inanimate objects/humans/gross/etc.
The art looks good and the designs work for what they are. An "animated keyring" yokai would make sense, the same does not work well in Pokémon.

If it makes you feel any better, the mustache is actually another aspect of the magnetic theme. It's actually made of iron fillings and isn't real facial hair. It just LOOKs like the part similar to the Vanilite line resembling Ice cream but are not made of frozen milk and waffle cones.
