Maybe not all of the features, but some of the features would make sense to return without cluttering anything up. Changes in the mood of the music to match the time of day shouldn't be that hard, and characters customizing their outfits would always be a nice feature to have.

More than anything I want to draw on my trainer card again. Though DPP sort of had that too but it was mainly for signing your name and very limited, you couldn't really draw on it as well as in BW.

There's a trick that allows removing less pixels than the pen adds, so working it little by little decent pics are possible. Some people pretty much import their art into the game by editing the save file, they draw in a different program that allows far greater detail and quality than what is possible to achieve the legit way.

Walking pokemon is my favorite feature because it makes pokemon more that it is, these creatures aren't just slaves you captured. They are living and breathing creatures (inb4 anon pokemon is not real) that care for you, they battle for you.

This. I miss this feature, they could make it optional to take the pokemon out of the ball or not so people that don't want it they can just get the pokemon inside the ball.
I also liked customization which seems to be a one time thing, and pokeathlon.
Itemfinder in HG/SS actually made it fun to find items.
Contests were a pretty decent distraction in R/S (I havent played OR/AS)
The pokegear having and good use in general in HG/SS and changing what pokemon you can find, instead of just giving you a few paragraphs and changing the background music in G/S/C.

It's a bloody great mechanic and loads of fun, I've spent countless hours chaining mons and I've even found 3 shinies in my new copy of AS.
