I disagree.
For starters, gen 1 had the best atmosphere. It really felt like a fleshed-out world, with a lot of locations and characters being interconnected and having story significance (your rival being the professor's grandson, the pokemon mansion having those notes about Mewtwo, etc).
It had the best plot twists. Giovanni being the eighth gym leader. Your rival always being one step ahead of you, and becoming champion in the end only for you to kick his ass. Defeating the champion felt like a legit accomplishment.
The bad guys were actually threatening. They didn't try to harness the power of the main legendary, they CREATED the main legendary. They didn't have hair-brained schemes to take over the world, they just wanted to fuck your shit up personally.
I could go on-and-on about howfirered is the best Pokemon game ever made, but the point is moot because in the end, it's just my opinion. But still, I hold true to my beliefs.
