Not true at all. Sableye is popular. Spiritomb shared Sableye's gimmick and is memorable for how it's obtained plus being a Cynthiamon. Shedinja is the most unique Pokemon. Banette, Mismagius, Frosslass, and Gourgeist have waifufags. Chandelure was popular enough to get into Pokken. Aegislash is Smogonsword. I also recall a lot of silly fanart for Drifloon during Gen 4, although it's fallen into obscurity these days.
The type as a whole is popular for having morbid Dex entries.

Honestly, Altaria being a bluebird of happiness ought to qualify it for Dragon/Fairy like its mega. I really don't know why Dunsparce is Normal and not Ground, but it ought to be Ground/Fairy. I don't know that I'd used the perfume thing as poison though. I'd put Illumise and Volbeat as Bug/Fairy, not that it'll make them any more useful, but it feels thematically appropriate. They're certainly lacking in legitimate bug features, and are some of the only bugtypes to do so.
