This. Blaziken (and arguably Swamper) is more popular but I think >>25910020 had the right idea. Sceptile isn't Hoenn's Charizard so much as it's Grass's Charizard. It's Game Freak's go-to Grass starter much as Charizard is the go-to Fire starter and Greninja seems to be becoming the go-to Water starter.
Grass type is my favorite type but seriously, fuck Sceptile. It's just so horribly underwhelming in every single way.

Sceptile is also the most popular grass starter. Venusaur is the most known, but he left an awful taste in a lot of people's mouths.
