Should I buy pic related? It's going for £12.99
Background, wanted to replay older gens before S&M come out. Completed OR and X late last year, and Soulsilver is going alright, playing it now.
I have Diamond, and played it when it came out.
But I played it for a bit last month and it's just.... so slow. And I didn't pick the fire starter and according to the wiki the only other fire type is a fucking Ponyta. Won't even get into the lack of choice in other areas.
Anyway, does Platinum fix any of this?
Would you recommend Platinum at all?
If the above price is too much how much would you personally pay for this game?

Platinum has the best Elite 4 and Champion teams.
The Gym Leader teams are pretty great too, see Candice's.
Barry is also has the best in game team out of all rivals.Wally has a tougher team in ORAS, but it's main game so who cares
Cyrus has a very solid team in his last battle too.
I definitely recommend it if you care about battles not being piss easy like in every other game.

Platinum is one of the best pokemon games. As for your questions, it's faster than DP, has an expanded pokedex (that includes more fire types among other things) and I paid full-price for it back in 09 and don't regret it for a second.

It's definitely faster than DP, but slower than SS. It suffers from the same engine limitations in general, but a lot of the framerate issues from DP have been fixed or improved. The surging speed is also adjusted back at running speed instead of walking speed like in DP.

General battle speed is much faster. In D/P, it takes like 2 seconds for attack messages to pop up, another 2 seconds after a move's animation for it to take effect, and another 2 seconds for a Pokemon's fainting cry to play after their health reaches 0.

Platinum is fantastic. Just played through it again recently, finished it off by beating the Battle Tower with my team of Garchomp/Gyarados/Alakazam.
Pokemon selection is weak if you don't like reusing Pokemon. I switched out my usual Staraptor for Drifblim and decided to use Mamoswine for once, but other than that, I've used them all before. Most of the alternative """""options""""" are complete shit, even in game, or really good only in competitive play.

While D/P/Pt had awful battle music for everyone outside of the Battle Frontier, it had GOAT city and route music. 202, 209, 206, Jubillife, Sunny Shore... all fantastic. Granted, only a handful are actually that good, but I'm still nostalgic for them somehow.

You're not changing the game speed. You're just emulating it at a faster speed. The game speed remains the same. You don't get better framerates, you just skip frames instead. You can easily understand this from how junked up the music gets in faster speeds.
That's all fine and dandy if you're replaying the game and just want to skip to some part of it or whatever, but I have no idea why you'd play a game on fast forward your first time through.
You can think of it like watching a movie or episode of something in your media play at 2x, 4x or 10x its speed. The movie doesn't get faster. You just process less of it. That's not a great analogy or anything since games and movies aren't comparable but you get the idea.

Anyway, that's why many sprites simply look like they're gliding as opposed to running because the game can't keep up with the speed.
