I avoided spoilers for this gen and when I found goomy I knew it had to be the pseudo legend (weak as hell dragon type that late in the game and all).
When I was told it's name was "Goodra" I was expecting it to keep the snail motif and turn into some dripping hydra abomination....but instead I got this.

I know no one agrees with me, but i liked samurott. oshawott had a pretty bad design imo but i always go with the water starter, so i picked him. Once i saw dewott i thought it looked pretty cool, he looked a lot more martial-arts-like, kinda like a watery jackie chan. Then he goes full samurai with samurott, and it seemed fitting to me. But that's just my unpopular opinion.

Let's look at his strengths, shall we?

If you haven't already noticed, when the Kalos starters were designed based off the traditional RPG class trio: Fighter, Mage, and Thief. They made a mistake while designing Chesnaught, though: fighter doesn't begin to describe the depth of devastation this burly motherfucker this giant hedgehog beast is capable of wreaking.
For instance, his base attack is 107, which might seem mediocre until you remember that this spiny bastard's secondary type is fighting, which is ONLY ONE OF THE BEST OFFENSE TYPES IN THE GAME, NIGGA. Every fighting type move he can learn has great power which gets multiplied by 1.5 thanks to STAB, which will then be doubled if it's super effective.
He's also got a fuckhuge movepool. Notable attack types they have access to include Flying, Psychic, Electric, and even fucking Ground, which just so happens to have FIVE fucking types it's super effective against. They can even learn Giga Impact NATURALLY. Other poke's who can do this include two t-rexes, a pterodactyl, a gigantic fucking golem, and the GOD OF LIFE ITSELF.
But we're far from done here, because he's also got access to Belly Drum, which raises his attack stat not one, not two, but SIX goddamned stages. In other words,you'd bolster your fucking britches if you want to survive two rounds with this recipe for anal annihilation that tastes like every mistake you've ever made mixed with your parent's disappointment.
Goddamn, just try to look at that muscly fucker with his tree-trunk limbs for more than ten seconds and tell me they don't fill you with the fear of god. In fact, Chesnaughts are all so fucking manly that even the females have sick-ass beards that grow into their heaps of chest hair. He's also got a great shiny sprite to boot.

Pokemon have the unfortunate tendency to have pun names that describe what they are. For example, Blastoise is a turtle with canons on it's back.
That's probably why Chesnaut's name is derived from things that are un-fucking-stoppable, because his thing is that he's a tough nut to crack.
For starters, he's got THE BEST BASE DEFENSE OF ANY STARTER, at 122, which is pretty dope when you consider that most fighting types have less than 83 at max lvl. In fact, the only one with more than him is Coballion, who's just barely better with 128. That's right, a LEGENDARY VIGILANTE SWORD HORSE is only MARGINALLY more sturdy than a glorified hedgehog. And that's not even taking into account the fuckhuge shell on his back.
Now, we've already established this dude's a beefy bastard, but if the pokedex is to be believed, and it should be, considering they're used frequently by professional scientists, his shell is harder than a diamond with a dick. It lets Chesnaught do some crazy shit. For example, the best Chesnaughts, when pushed hard enough, FLIP AN ENTIRE TANK by running into it. Think about that for a second: 50 tons of guns and steel, flipped all the way OVER by this Golaiath of a beast. Not even a goddamned NUKE can stop him: All he has to do is duck into his shell for a bit and he'll be more than fine.
Now wipe the jizz off your screen. I know you just came after reading about one of the best Pokemon, and we're not done yet.

Chesnaught has a second rad as fuck gimmick. Se the green sections on his arms? Not only are they known for being tough as fuck and beefier than your mom's gaping uterus, but he can also spawn LONG-ASS SPIKES from them.
His (previously) signature move, Spiky Shield is just him connecting his arms so the needles form a wall of "FUCK YOU" to any and all physical attackers.

If I had to redesign Emboar, I'd make it a Fire/Ground quadropedal razorback. With similar proportions to like, the Beast from Beauty and the Beast. Make the furry "razorback" and its tail flames and keep the brown color scheme. Would be fucking great imo.

Swap out the medieval theme for a pro wrestler theme. Emboar just has fucking shit proportions and all those shapes and designs all over it are awful. But if you remove the shapes and lines and change its proportions and shape, you basically get an entirely new Pokemon i.e. Emboar is shit and can't be saved.

Bulky proportions are completely fine. The problem with Emboar is not that its proportions are bulky, like you said, Blastoise is bulky, its Emboar's own individual proportions. Bulky proportions are not inherently bad.
