They're fine for competitive, but I don't like them in the lore/continuity of the Pokemon series. I know that's a hilarious thing to say since they consistently shit on their own lore/continuity but to me it's a big deal.

Its not just a pattern. Its a genuine thing. 1, 3 and 5 are the "big" gens. 2, 4 and 6 are the "add-on" gens. Though I see your point, 7 could certainly break it.

If they keep making new megas at this rate, we are gonna need a whole bag pouch for the fucker's stones.
But they had to make special snowflake stones because they needed to do their retarded thing of "it could always evolve, you just didn't have a dusk stone yet!" to explain why Altaria can't just evolve in XY.
I can't help but feel that mega stones are contributing to the new games feeling too generous to the player. If people get handed the 67 mega stones that are possible in the game, that makes it feel like the game is handing out powerups whenever it can, because it just plain needs to throw them at the player to get them out of the way.

Mega Evolutions are a great concept. It's a shame that most of them, at least design wise, look like overdesigned shit.
The idea of having an "ace" pokemon that surpassed the boundary of regular evolution on your team is great.

Well okay, not really. I think they're usually overdesigned and they seem to just be a bunch of stripes and spikes out the ass. It also bums me out that they're basically saying theres no chance for certain pokemon to evolve later in the series.
But with Megas, i find the game becomes less predictable. Typically competitive players had certain builds for certain pokemon and certain items to go along with those Pokemon. But now with Megas, you can go a different build or different item, and if they have several possible Megas on their team, you're never too sure what theyre planning.

If any of what you said was true, then the Black & White games wouldn't be the only Pokemon games that I've dropped half way through with no intention of ever picking them back up.
The fact that the actual pokemon designs of that gen are largely dog shit, I cannot think of a single redeeming factor about Gen V.
