I don't know why everyone hates this gen so much, I'm playing through it now for the first time and it's pretty fun. Great visuals and use of 3D. Good design. Good pacing. Nice characters. Nice world and cities. Plus all the extras such as character customisation and roller skates others mentioned.
Seriously, I think people who hate this gen need to remove their nostalgia goggles.
