Why do you think gf is making sun and moon compatible with gen 1 games? New mechanic?

They are making it so Pokemon can be transferred to SM, that's not compatibility
It's just because it's been awhile since Gen 1/3 Pokemon were a thing and they're getting left behind as the generations and handhelds move on. So ORAS was made and they're making Gen 1 tradeable with S/M.

To encourage people to buy the VC games. Also these games seem to be meant for celebrating the 20th anniversary so it makes a bit of sense.

How do the IVs work? Do they just get random numbers? Or do the IVs they have double (since gen 1 had IVs 0-15 instead of 0-31), replicate for special attack/defense, and get a random HP?
