People give ORAS a lot of shit for having worse gyms than Emerald (which is fair enough, since that was probably the best part of Emerald). But at least they had better gyms + elite four than gen 5 and 6.

I'm glad I got Star Sapphire instead of Alpha Sapphire but unfortunately my experience over the past gens have trained me to view everything as babby easy so its difficulty is a slap in the face and I get frustrated easily.

Hoenn has really bad balance of types. You are fucked if you pick Treecko which simply cannot fight against Wattson, Flannery and Winona. Torchic MAY have problems with Winona and water specialist. Mudkip completely steamrolls everything.
At least, that's how I remember it.
Kanto gym leaders are probably still my favourite to this day. Good music, nice selection of types and cool Pokemon (Koga could be improved though).

Treecko's fine, it struggles against a few gyms but it's very useful against Team Aqua, Roxanne, Liza & Tate and Wallace/Juan. It's Dragon-type Mega and improved movepool make it much more useful in ORAS.
Although the other two give you a much easier time. Torchic is a solid Pokemon once it evolves into Combusken, the only trainers that will give you problems are Liza & Tate. Mudkip is still the best though, since Grass types are pretty much non-existent in Hoenn.

Actually, in Ruby and Sapphire you only need to catch a Sharpedo and teach it Rain Dance. That will lock Solrock into using Sunny Day and it will never attack you. If you pair it up with Blaziken, all you have to do is make sure you get rid of Solrock before you run out of Rain Dance PP. Then because Lunatone has no moves that can harm Sharpedo, it's smooth sailing from there.

Try 8 out of 8 gym leaders. The only one that might pose a problem is the last one because it's water type

BW2 had pretty good gyms, but I only ever use challenge mode, so that explains it. X and Y not only had easy fights, but the gym leaders were useless outside the battle.
