The story was made for them, barring the delta episode. They re-used all the 3D assets and models, which was to be expected.
They essentially had a year to just re-create a game and add in enough content to justify a remake, and they fucking failed.

Am I the only one around here that actually thinks battle facilities are boring as fuck and a cheap ass excuse for end game content? I liked the PWT, but everything else kinda sucked. The emerald BF had a few novelties and cool modes but they weren't anything breath taking. The platinum BF sucked big fat balls and I barely played it. Whatever the HG/SS facility is called was disgustingly bad.

So did the people who made Majora's Mask, and guess what? They made a brand new story with new places and a brand new gameplay mechanic. Yes, they reused the models from Ocarina, but so did Game Freak and look at the difference. The "new" areas in ORAS amount to Sea Mauville, the Battle Resort (which just rehashes the Battle Maison from XY), and the random Mirage Spots that amount to islands smaller than the starting town and have maybe a grass patch on them.
