I've been playing Pokemon for years, and the only shiny I ever saw was a shiny Graveler in Diamond's victory road.
It blew up.
I was only 11 so I didn't know how rare they were, so I didn't mind.
But it still haunts me in my later years.

I got a shiny Hawlucha and a shiny Linoone at random encounters in gen 6 without shiny charm. As far as I'm concerned, they mean something. Odds are still pretty bad when you're not using any methods.
I found 2 as well, I have neither of them anymore.
I've been playing Pokemon since RBY and have yet to see a single shiny in the wild.
